# See Flathead

Webcams from Glacier National Park and the Flathead Valley, one photo at a time.

This is a markdown rendering of https://seeflathead.com/, which is a single page whose entire
visible content is a photograph. Everything below is on that page as text; the photograph
is the part that cannot be.

## What it is

See Flathead shows one still image at a time from a public webcam in northwest Montana,
full screen, changing every 2 minutes. There are 32 cameras, so a full loop takes about an hour.
A bar in the corner names the camera currently on screen and opens a list to jump to any
other one; choosing a camera stops the rotation and parks on that view, refreshing it in
place on the same interval.

There is no account, no sign-in, no API and nothing to install. It is free, and the viewer is a
single page — everything else published here is a supporting file: this page, /llms.txt,
/sitemap.xml, /robots.txt and the link-preview image. There are no other pages to crawl.

Images are letterboxed, never cropped. The cameras range from 4:3 to a roughly 5:1
panorama, and cropping a panorama to fill a screen throws away the panorama.

## When to use this

Use it to see what conditions look like right now -- weather, smoke, snow, cloud on the
peaks, how busy a beach is -- anywhere in Glacier National Park, Whitefish, Kalispell,
Bigfork, or on Flathead Lake. Use it as something to leave running on a spare tablet,
monitor or TV.

It is not a source for forecasts, historical images, archives, timelapses or video. Each
camera is one current still, refreshed at the source roughly once a minute. Nothing is
recorded or kept, so there is no past to retrieve.

## Where the photos come from

See Flathead operates no cameras and stores no images. The photographs belong to their
operators, each of whom publishes them on their own site:

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any of them. It points at
images they already make public.
Three of the Flathead Lake Biological Station cameras publish over plain HTTP and are
re-served over HTTPS so a browser will load them; the images are unmodified.
